Born in 1743 at Kassel.

Father: Landgrave Frederick II of Hesse-Kassel. Mother: Princess Mary of Great Britain and Hanover.

Married in 1764 in Copenhagen Princess CAROLINE of Denmark (*1747 Copenhagen,+1820 Kassel).

He was never crowned.

His issue who reigned: WILLIAM II (*1777,+1847).

Deposed in 1806 and exiled in Denmark. Restored in 1813.

Died in 1821 in Kassel.

Buried in the Chapel of Löwenburg Castle in Kassel.

His consort Electress Caroline of Denmark was buried in the Mausoleum at the Old Cemetery in Kassel.

Father: Carlo Maria Bonaparte. Mother: Maria Letizia née Ramolino.

Married firstly in 1803 in Baltimore, Maryland (USA) Elizabeth Patterson (*1785 Baltimore,+1879 Baltimore). Marriage was annulled in 1805.

Married secondly in 1807 in Paris Princess CATHERINE of Württemberg (*1783 St Petersburg,+1835 Lausanne, Switzerland).

Married thirdly in 1840 in Paris Giustina Pecori-Suarez (*1811 Florence,+1903 Florence).

Deposed in 1813 and exiled in Württemberg, Austria and Italy.

From 1848 he lived in France.

Died in 1860 at Villegenis near Paris.

Buried in the Dome des Invalides in Paris.

His first wife Elizabeth Patterson was buried in the Green Mount Cemetery in Baltimore, USA.

His second consort Queen Catherine of Württemberg was buried in the Palace Church at Ludwigsburg.

-FREDERICK WILLIAM (*1802,+1875),

-Marie (*1804,+1888; Duchess of Saxe-Meiningen).

Died in 1847 in Frankfurt.

Buried in St Mary's Church at Hanau (no tomb).

His consort Electress Augusta of Prussia was buried at the Old Cemetery in Kassel.

 

 

1847-1866: FREDERICK WILLIAM (Friedrich Wilhelm)

Born in 1802 at Philippsruhe near Hanau.

Father: Elector William II of Hesse-Kassel. Mother: Electress Augusta of Prussia.

Married morganatically in 1831 in Rellinghausen Gertrud Falkenstein-Lehmann (*1803 Bonn,+1882 Prague).

Deposed by the Prussians in 1866 and exiled in Austria-Hungary (Bohemia).

Died in 1875 in Prague.

Buried at the Old Cemetery in Kassel.
