Married in 1549 in Mantua Archduchess CATHERINE of Habsburg (*1533 Vienna,+1572 Linz), later Queen of Poland.

Died in 1550 near Mantua.

Buried firstly in the Church of S. Paola in Mantua, later reburied in the Basilica of St Barbara in Mantua (no tomb).

His consort Archduchess Catherine of Habsburg was buried in St Florian Abbey in Austria.

Born in 1538 in Mantua.

Father: Duke Frederick II of Mantua. Mother: Duchess Margaret of Montferrat.

Married in 1561 in Mantua Archduchess ELEANOR of Austria (*1534 Innsbruck,+1594 Mantua).

His issue who reigned:

-VINCENT I (*1562,+1612),

-Margaret (*1564,+1618; Duchess of Modena).

Died in 1587 in Goito.

Buried in the Basilica of St Barbara in Mantua (no tomb).

His consort Archduchess Eleanor of Austria was firstly buried in the Holy Trinity Church in Mantua. In 1855 she was reburied in the Cathedral of Mantua.

Married firstly in 1581 Princess Margaret of Parma (*1567,+1643). Marriage was annulled in 1582.

Married secondly in 1584 Princess ELEANOR de' Medici of Tuscany (*1566,+1611).

-FERDINAND I (*1587,+1626),

-VINCENT II (*1594,+1627),

-Eleanor (*1598,+1655; Holy Roman Empress, Queen of Bohemia and Hungary).

Married in 1608 in Turin Princess MARGARET of Savoy (*1589 Turin,+1655 Miranda).

Died in 1612 in Mantua.

Buried in the Basilica of St Barbara in Mantua (no tomb).

His consort Duchess Margaret of Savoy was buried in the Cistercian Monastery of Las Huelgas, Burgos, Spain.

 

 

1612-1626: FERDINAND I (Ferdinando I)

Born in 1587 in Mantua.

Father: Duke Vincent I of Mantua. Mother: Duchess Eleanor de Medici.

Married firstly and morganatically in 1616 Camilla Faá di Bruno (*c. 1599,+1662). Divorced in 1616.

Married secondly in 1617 Princess CATHERINE de' Medici of Tuscany (*1593 Florence,+1629 Siena).

Died in 1626 in Mantua.

Buried in the Basilica of St Barbara in Mantua (no tomb).

His second consort Duchess Catherine de' Medici was buried in the Basilica of St Lawrence in Florence.

Married in 1616 Princess ISABELLA Gonzaga (*1576,+1630 Bozzolo).

Died in 1637 in Mantua.

Buried in the Basilica of St Barbara in Mantua (no tomb).

His consort Catherine of Lorraine was buried in the Cathedral of St Cyr at Nevers, France.

Born in 1629 in Mantua.

Father: Duke Charles of Nevers. Mother: Duchess Maria Gonzaga.

Married in 1649 Archduchess ISABELLA CLARA of Austria (*1629 Innsbruck,+1685 Mantua).

His issue who reigned: FERDINAND CHARLES (*1652,+1708).

Died in 1665 in Mantua.

He was buried in the Sanctuary of Santa Maria at Grazie di Curtatone near Mantua.

His consort Duchess Isabella Clara was buried in the Church of S. Orsola in Mantua.

Born in 1652 at Revere.

Father: Duke Charles II of Mantua. Mother: Duchess Isabella Clara of Austria.

Married firstly in 1671 Princess ANNA ISABELLA Gonzaga (*1655 Guastalla,+1703 Mantua).

Married secondly in 1704 in Tortona Princess SUZANNE HENRIETTE of Lorraine-Elboeuf (*1686,+1710).

Deposed in 1708.

Died in 1708 in Padua.

He was buried in the Basilica of St Barbara in Mantua (no tomb).

His first consort Duchess Anna Isabella was buried in the church of St Maurice in Mantua.

His second consort Duchess Suzanne Henriette was buried in the Convent of the Dominicans in Paris (demolished).
